This SLK is far better finished inside than the previous car, and various trim options give it even more of a custom look. There's enough small-item storage in the cabin for short trips, but the trunk space is severely limited when the top is folded away, with only 6.5 cubic feet of space, just enough room for a couple of soft-sided bags. The interior is one of the most comfortable and luxurious in its class, and the seats are proportioned generously, with sporty bolsters and plenty of lumbar support for advanced maneuvers. Inside the SLK, most drivers will be pleasantly surrounded by ample leg- and headroom. And though the suspension is tuned for little roll, the 2010 SLK roadsters each have a relatively smooth, composed ride. All SLKs benefit from a mechanical variable-steering gear that quickens the steering ratio in tighter corners and helps improve on-center tracking. The estimated 0-60 mph time is 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph and 14/22 mpg gas mileage. While the seven-speed automatic can feel slow in the lesser SLKs, it's cured in the SLK55 AMG with the addition of paddle shifters and a SpeedShift transmission program. The fangs come out with the exclusive SLK55 AMG, with 355 horsepower shot out through its rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic, larger wheels and tires, a tightly controlled ride and handling, and breathtaking acceleration. The engine takes good advantage of the SLK's quick handling response and good dynamic balance in tight corners. Benz pegs its 0-60 mph time at 5.3 seconds, top speed at 155 mph, and fuel economy at 18/26 mpg. It's the mainstay of the lineup, with ample acceleration and a light snarl as it rises through its powerband. The SLK350 runs around a 3.5-liter V-6 with 300 horsepower teamed to a seven-speed automatic. Its 0-60 time is estimated at 6.1 seconds, with a top speed of 155 mph and 17/26 mpg fuel economy for the manual car, 19/26 mpg with the automatic. The SLK300's engine remains a 228-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6-it's strictly for sun-worshipping folks with lower expectations for performance, though conversely, it's the only SLK that offers a six-speed manual transmission. The 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class comes in three models, each now with a very different driving personality. The same details can be applied to non-AMG cars by ordering a Sport Package. The SLK55 AMG performance edition wears its own distinct details: bigger wheels, aerodynamic body add-ons, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. It's visual unity, but operational chaos at times. For better or worse, lots of secondary controls-particularly on the radio-have been uniformly designed and grouped in squadrons of matching buttons. The interior is a high-class, low-key affair with lots of dark leather and low-gloss plastic putting a priority on driver controls. The arrow-like nose is capped by a big three-pointed star, and side strakes and dramatic details elevate the look far above the first-generation SLK's effete softness. The look is wedgy and purposeful, and it bears more than a passing resemblance to the heftier SL-Class grand tourer. The current Mercedes-Benz SLK saw a redesign in 2005 and was refreshed last year with restyled front and rear ends. With prices ranging from $48,000 to $68,000, the 2010 SLK-Class matches up against the Infiniti G37 Convertible, the BMW Z4, and the Porsche Boxster. The power-folding hardtop encloses one of the best interior spaces in its class, and its larger-displacement powertrains are swift performers. The 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class blends sports car and classic roadster in a two-seat body that's appealingly styled and charming to drive. Editors compared the SLK to other two-seat ragtops and hardtop convertibles, and compiled a full review of quotes from other sources to help you decide which roadster is best for you. 's editors drove and reviewed the latest Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class for this road test.

In part, that is probably true with your eyes as we covet the models that appeal to our instincts, but in terms of getting that piece of equipment to fit our golfing self-reality - oh dear. If you look in the mirror, you will probably see the person to avoid when getting advice on fitting.Īll too often, we have an over-inflated opinion on our ability (sometimes under-estimation which is almost as destructive) and yet we have a certain way of convincing ourselves that we know best when it comes to golf equipment. Too much ridicule over how dumb I am of a poster because I'm an idiot noob This is to learn from your experiences that you share so that travesties like my experiences can hopefully be avoided for others. edit: I know I am a newbie, oddball who prefers used equipment and doesn't know anything about squat. The things I hope for in a fitting are: not brand specific, a deep dive into every detail from grip to toe of the club, full club and ball data, and using similar urethane golf balls. The Dick's experience was the worst with a small selection and a tiny hitting bay which was a small try before you buy experience. I did make the purchase of my favorite club to this day early in my golf journey at Golf Galaxy - a used TM SLDR S 5w with a Stiff shaft, and I love it. With the same fixed smash factor it seemed like they were falsely padding the results to sell more gear. It was more of a try before you buy kinda place. Golf Galaxy was very limited in knowledge and club/shaft combinations to test. It did reveal a swing fault of handle raising and a need for upright lie that I have since adopted to my set of old Pings, so I can't say the experience was all bad. I wanted to try clubs that were over length and a better fitting shaft than what I had, but the help I got was super lame with very little actual fitting or recommendation. The PGA Superstore experience I had was sub par to me. And, you have an option of getting 'fit' by the Roger Dunn employee in the public area if you want to look at used or multiple brands. They do have a real fitting experience with major OEMs and better launch monitors for a fee if you already know the brand you want. This is open to the retail public without a true fitting which has led to many purchases for me on used equipment. Roger Dunn has hitting bays to test the clubs, new and used, before you buy, with launch monitors that only measure ball speed and use a fixed smash factor without any club path data (same experience at all the places I tried so I won't mention it again). I have gone 3 places: Roger Dunn in Santa Ana, PGA Superstore in Irvine, and Golf Galaxy (& Dick's which makes it 4 places) I am thinking about a fitting in 2021 myself, and what little experiences I have had in big box stores verses what I see on TXG's YouTube videos has me really questioning my experiences as total fails. edit: the following are my thoughts on the subject to get the ball rolling and not intended for anything other then contribution for the greater good. Please share fitters to "AVOID AT ALL COSTS" and any terrible experiences we can learn from? What is the WORST place to get a fitting? Fitting HORROR Stories? In 2021, in addition to Chromecast, Google TV is slated to be available on TVs from Sony and other Android TV OS partners.Full support for Google Stadia gaming service scheduled for first half of 2021.Supports video formats up to 4K at 60 frames per second, and HDR (including HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision) and audio formats including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos (passthrough). It will ship by the end of 2020 in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the U.K. for $49.99 in three colors: snow (white), sunrise (rose) and sky (light blue). In the last few days, the new Chromecast already went on sale at Home Depot and other retailers ahead of the official launch. And Google TV’s Watchlist lets you bookmark movies and shows you want to save for later.ĭetails of Google’s big new push to take on Amazon, Roku and Apple in the streaming-device category have been leaking out for several months. Users also can ask the Google Assistant, “What should I watch?” to get a list of popular movies and shows. Google TV also will deliver personal recommendations based on what you’ve watched and your interests, from across your subscriptions and the content available to you. With Google TV, you can use Chromecast’s voice search to tell it to do things like “find action movies” or “show me sci-fi adventure TV shows” from across services you subscribe to. In addition to navigating the Google TV guide, it features programmable controls for your TV or soundbar to adjust volume, switch inputs and more. And there’s a Google Assistant button to let you kick off content searches and ask for any kind of info (e.g., weather or sports scores), play YouTube Music, Spotify or Pandora, or check Nest cameras. The Chromecast’s new voice remote has dedicated buttons to launch YouTube and Netflix. In fact, the Chromecast with Google TV, because it’s powered by the Android TV operating system, can run over 6,500 apps compatible with the OS including for gaming, fitness, education and music. Whereas the Chromecast originally simply “cast” content from a smartphone (and you can still do that), the new dongle natively hosts apps including those for Netflix, YouTube, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, Peacock and more. I initially tried to pair a bluetooth mouse, which can be detected by the Chromecast, but it's unpairable since you can't acknowledge the onscreen pairing request with the mouse (Catch-22)Īnyway, maybe my experience may help someone.Google announced Chromecast with Google TV during its holiday-season virtual product reveal Wednesday, where it also unveiled the $99 Nest Audio smart speaker and the 5G-enabled Pixel 5 ($699 and up) and Pixel 4a 5G ($499 and up) Android smartphones. I'm not sure if this will work with all bluetooth keyboards since I had to use the touchpad/mouse feature on my keyboard to make menu selections, arrows and "enter" caused crashes. Note, the Chromecast crashed and rebooted several times during this process, so it's not very stable. I then used the keyboard to add another device, and chose the Chromecast remote it had detected. From there, I went to the Remotes/Accessories menu and chose to "Forget" the Chromecast remote. I was able to pair a bluetooth keyboard I happened to have, which allowed me to navigate onscreen to my settings menu. A quick press of the button on the Chromecast brings up bluetooth pairing mode. In better news, I found a roundabout way of fixing this. This sure sounded promising, however I did it several times and nothing changed. When it starts pulsing then it will appear on the device list and you can select it using your phone.įinally, your remote works. There is a light on the bottom of the remote that will come on. Replace the batteries while holding the home button. Start looking for a new device while that is happening remove the batteries and hold the home button. If that doesn't work we need to reset the remote. Go to the settings (top right corner option under your Google icon) and go to the remotes and accessories and forget the remote. Ok so now you can control the chromecast. To solve go to the Google play or Apple store and download the remote app. Can't control the chromecast as the remote doesn't work. I like tiny figurines intended for fairy gardens, rocks I've painted, shells, seeds, tree bark, and other trinkets I've found outdoors that remind me of my hiking and camping adventures.įill the container with the substrate, then layer on the stones and other items. If you want to go beyond a traditional Zen garden style, consider adding extra elements. For example, I used five small blacks stones that I gathered during a mindfulness walk in the forest last month for my latest Zen garden. I personally have chosen rocks that I've picked up on vacations that have personal meaning to me. These will become the focal points in your Zen garden. You can also experiment with other earth-based elements, such as wood mulch, small stones, cut grass, or sprouted seedlings in soil. Or, you could use sand collected locally from the edge of a lake or beach that has meaning to you. What do you want to form the base of your garden? If you like the idea of traditional white sand, you can find some at a craft store. Plus, sand can get a little messy! Here's my approach to how to make a Zen garden.Ĭan you upcycle an unused flower pot or a fancy bowl that's tucked away in your kitchen cupboard? I've also used homemade wooden boxes or large, flat seashells for the bases of DIY Zen gardens. But in modern times, we've evolved these gardens to feature additional earth-derived elements that speak to us, all in a small tabletop scale.Īs I've created a few of these around my home, I tend to work with a soil or pebble base, because it feels more grounding and helps me connect with the earth. Traditional Zen gardens are simple: sand, stones, and occasionally moss. The stones in this 15th-century rock garden are positioned in a way that loosely creates the outline of a branching tree or resembles a tiger and cubs, both tranquil illusions that engage visitors' thinking minds during moments of reflection at the garden. In Kyoto, Japan, you can visit Ryoan-ji, also known as the Temple of the Peaceful Dragon. You might also spot pieces of moss anchoring the stones, creating an island effect in the sea of sand. You might see approximately fifteen rocks nestled in sand that's been carefully groomed with a rake to display lines in various patterns. These gardens are conventionally located outside and can measure as large as a tennis court. These minimalist gardens, generally featuring white sand and a few carefully positioned rocks, are designed to "invoke deep meditation"-a core tenet of Buddhist philosophy. Originating in Japan, these structures are also known as Japanese rock gardens or karesansui, which translates to "dry-mountain-water," according to Smithsonian Magazine. Let's learn more about these tranquil spaces and how to make a Zen garden of your own. The mini nature oasis provides a focal point for meditation and helps me mindfully pause when spending time indoors. One way I like to bring the beauty and tranquility of Mother Nature indoors is by constructing a DIY Zen garden. And for me, that's achieved by soaking in elements of nature. Adding a layer of calm to our days eases stress. Navy Sound Surveillance System ( SOSUS), which was equipment originally designed to detect Soviet submarines. : 284 This is a stand-alone system designed and built by NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) to augment NOAA's use of the U.S. The sound was detected by the Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array, a system of hydrophones primarily used to monitor undersea seismicity, ice noise, and marine mammal population and migration. The sound's source was roughly triangulated to 50°S 100°W / 50°S 100°W / -50 -100, a remote point in the south Pacific Ocean west of the southern tip of South America. By 2012, earlier speculation that the sound originated from a marine animal was replaced by NOAA's description of the sound as being consistent with noises generated via non-tectonic cryoseisms originating from glacial movements such as ice calving, or through seabed gouging by ice. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in 1997. My urge to create new music is just as strong as ever, and the Neutron gives me a new and rich musical medium with which I can express myself like never before.Bloop was an ultra-low-frequency, high amplitude underwater sound detected by the U.S. It is exciting to have a new outlet for musical ideas that is compatible with various modes of self-production, as the COVID-19 pandemic has eliminated all my performance opportunities (the same is true for so many other musicians, as well). Those have been fun to produce as I document my journey learning more about what the Neutron can do in preparation for creating either fixed media or live pieces with it at some point in the coming year. The videos I’ve included in this blog entry, and the others that I have posted to my Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok accounts, show the Neutron can do so many other things in conjunction with different hardware. I can even play my Neutron on its own, without attaching a keyboard, like it has a sonic heartbeat I can bring to life. And, even though the Neutron is electronic and produces a synthesized sound, there is something very naturalistic about the way it reacts to itself and evolves in the moment. Some of these connections are default settings on the instrument, but others can be created spontaneously using the patch bay. Because it is a modular synthesizer, the discrete components of its sound are interwoven and can manipulate each other. What I love the most about playing with the Neutron is the way it listens to itself, and makes me listen in new ways. The Neutron fits the physicality of my improvisatory style, honed in middle school and high school over hours of relentless electric guitar noodling, and, in this way, has shown me a new path to making electronic music. I could, of course, make a simulated instrument in Max/MSP that exhibits all these characteristics (and many more, because that program is basically limitless), but I don’t have the skills for that right now. The knobs have character and ‘give’ to them, the patch bay can get cluttered with wires, and I hear the Neutron’s sound respond, often unexpectedly, when I move my hands around the interface, experimenting with different combinations of effects and settings. Mediated through the computer screen, mouse, and keyboard, there is not as strong, if any, tactile connection between me and the sounds I’m creating, which is very different from all my experience playing instruments. I’ve written some fixed media pieces using DAWs (check out Mechanismus), and played around with Max/MSP and Supercollider, which are incredibly flexible, coding-based programs, but, in addition to being hard for me to learn, I get stuck with the physical abstraction of the experience. Chris and I did an interview with experimental bassist Gahlord Dewald a couple months after Djentdemic was premiered in February 2016, and I even admit I’m not sure if Djentdemic is an electronic piece at all (Gahlord even teases me on air for saying something so ridiculous!). When I wrote the first of these works, Djentdemic for percussionist Christopher Sies, a few years ago, I wasn’t really sure if it ‘counted’ as an electro-acoustic piece because there was no fancy software at play. If you look at my new Works List page, you’ll see that there are not many electronic pieces listed there, and most of them are for amplified acoustic instruments. I’ve always been very interested in electronic music but insecure about my abilities in the medium. Eovaldi dominated Tampa Bay at Fenway this year. The Sox managed two runs on four hits in the third to take a 3-2 lead, but one wonders if they’ll rue a missed opportunity after opening the inning with four straight singles.Ī few notes on Red Sox starter Nate Eovaldi: Kittredge – summoned because Martinez has struggled all year with big velocity – attacked Martinez with hard stuff, striking him out on a 96-m.p.h. With runners on second and third and two outs, Kevin Cash made his second pitching change of the inning, targeting righthander Andrew Kittredge for J.D. After Devers greeted Fleming by grounding an RBI single up the middle to put the Sox up, 3-2, Fleming bounced back with a strikeout and grounder by Alex Verdugo. We are very much in the wheels-constantly-turning postseason format. He’s done after 2-plus innings, with lefty Josh Fleming in the game for Rafael Devers. Rays manager Kevin Cash has seen enough of Rasmussen. But with a compact swing and simple mechanics, his timing at the plate has looked sharp in his return to everyday duty for the postseason. But the inning was set up by Arroyo, who jumped on a first-pitch slider from Rasmussen to open the inning with a single up the middle.Īrroyo sat for most of the second half with an array of injuries, COVID, and with the Sox keeping Jose Iglesias in the lineup down the stretch. Hernández (2-for-2 through three innings) is in a great place, swinging at strikes and ignoring pitches outside of the zone while going 7-for-8 in the last two games. Three straight Red Sox singled to open the third inning against Tampa Bay’s Drew Rasmussen, with Kiké Hernández dropping a single to shallow center after Christian Arroyo led off the inning with a single and advanced to third when Kyle Schwarber ripped a single down the right field line. Had Franco reached, Taylor likely would have been summoned to face lefthander Austin Meadows (who homered in the first inning).Īs it stands, Cora must decide between having a lefthander come in for the sixth – which would likely prompt a pinch-hitter and then a matchup against Nelson Cruz, destroyer of lefties – or letting Eovaldi or a righthanded reliever face Meadows. The inning concluded with lefthander Josh Taylor warming behind Eovaldi. He retired Brandon Lowe on a liner to center, then got Wander Franco to ground a splitter to Kyle Schwarber at first for the last out of the inning. Entrusted with a chance to face the top of the Rays lineup for a third time in a pivotal situation, Eovaldi didn’t buckle. 9 hitter Joey Wendle lined a one-out double to the opposite field, putting the tying run on second. The subsequent 14 batters went 0-for-13 with seven strikeouts and a walk.īut Rays No. Rain was in the forecast for the next three days.Nate Eovaldi, after the two-run homer by Meadows in the first, dominated the Rays. Rookie Taj Bradley was to pitch as scheduled Sunday. game and 27th-man callup Cooper Criswell likely to work bulk innings, with Tyler Glasnow, Friday’s scheduled starter, working the 6:10 nightcap. That left the Rays with Trevor Kelley as the opener for Saturday’s 1:10 p.m. The rescheduling would cause some shuffling of pitching plans anyway, and for the Rays, that was magnified with the news late Friday that lefty Josh Fleming is headed to the injured list in the next few days due to left elbow soreness. “We really don’t have a say in the scenario.” “I was told it’s a Red Sox decision,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. The Red Sox’s decision was made in consultation with Major League Baseball officials, who may have wanted to keep the later off-day open in case of the need for other makeup games. Both teams have an off-day ahead of the two-game series slated for Sept. That seemed a bit surprising, given they had the option of playing the game when the Rays return in the final week of the season. Geoff decided not to manufacture that and that irritated Dave enough that he wanted to go make it himself. He had a really cool idea for mixing consoles that would make things go faster and smoother in the studio, it was intended to be made up of the new syncable machines you’d have not just 16 but 24-32 tracks recording at a time, so he developed the Harrison 32 Series console (he actually took the idea to Geoff Harnett). He also had a company called Studio Supply and he would go build studios and install these MCI consoles and tape machines. Harrison was the designer for some of later MCI console models. Dave Harrison was collaborating with Geoff Harnett and they were building MCI consoles. I’ve been here about 15-16 years, which is a long time to work somewhere but short in the scheme of things.
